JUNCAL GLACIER

Take an overnight trek to a huge glacier close to Santiago.

Journey into a beautiful mountain valley located deep in the middle of the Andes. Juncal is one of the biggest glaciers systems of the central Andes. Be amazed by the 20,000 ft. ice peaks and giant rock walls of 9000 vertical ft.  Juncal Andean park has a great marsh lands and won the Ramsar category in order to protect those wetlands and the fauna around it.

Hiking time

Day 1: 3 hours of ascent to Base Camp (resting time has been included)

Day 2: 1 hour of ascent to the glacier and 3 hours of descent (resting time has been included)


Transportation time

2,5 hours of transportation on the car from Santiago to the beginning of the path.

Lenght: 5 miles (ascent) / Ramp: 1.650 ft / Top of the path: 9.850 ft.

Requirements

Age of participants must be between 14 and 60 years old. Physical and medical condition must be compatible with activity (When in doubt, please ask).

The times on the itinerary below are an approximation of the schedule. These times could vary depending on weather and the speed of your group. A more accurate pick -up time will delivered once we receive your pick -up address obtained through the booking process.

Day 1: High summits and marsh lands

9:30 Pick up from your hotel or meeting point. Exact pick up time will be delivered by email.

10:30 Heading to north by San Martin Highway we will see the Aconcagua Mount, the highest in whole America continent.

11:30 We will reach the land road, the adventure starts! Crossing streams and rivers along the amazing valleys.

12:00 We will start hiking into the valley. Giant rock walls in front of us and the furious river along the path are your landscape now. After crossing some creeks we will walk by an easy pretty flat trail with breath taking views of Alto Los Leones Mount of 18.000 feet.

14:00 We will reach the amazing marsh lands (the path is dry). Amazing colours and flowers

15:00 We'll set the camp in a beautiful moraine. Enjoy your free evening in this amazing place waiting for the starry night and taking pictures.

Day 2: The Glacier

8:00 Breakfast or at time you want to wake up.

9:00 River Crossing heading to the Glacier

10:00 We will reach the ice. Is possible if the conditions allow to walk a little bit further and walk over the ice

11:30 Back in the camp and dismantle

14:30 Back in the entrance of the park.

17:30 Drop off at your hotel / Hostal

Warning: This activity could include hiking in irregular terrain, driving by unmaintained land road, sudden changes of weather and walking under strong sun.
