EL MORADO

Near Santiago, huge mountains and glaciers are the perfect place for snowshoeing. One of them is The Morado Glacier.

Breathtaking views of peaks of 18.000 feet, and several glaciers around you. One of them is a hanging glacier which falls into a  frozen lagoon, inside the lagoon, some iceberg complete the picture!

Highlights: hanging ice at 21.000 ft / frozen lagoon and icebergs / amazing rock walls / hike in the middle of the Andes / see the huge San José Volcano / snow - caped valley

3,5 hours of ascent and 2,5 hours of descent. 6 hours round trip (rest time has been included)


Transportation time

2,5 hours of transportation on the car from Santiago to the beginning of the path.


Technical data

Lenght: 4.3 miles (ascent) / Ramp: 2130 ft / Top of the path: 10170 ft.


Season

Year round. In summer is easier and the hiking time is at least one hour less. From June to November is a snow shoeing trip. Depending on the amount of snow on path, the hiking could be longer.


Requirements

Age of participants must be between 14 and 60 years old. Physical and medical condition must be compatible with activity (When in doubt, please ask).

The times on the itinerary below are an approximation of the schedule. These times could vary depending on weather and the speed of your group. A more accurate pick -up time will delivered once we receive your pick -up address obtained through the booking process.

8:00 transport from your hotel or meeting point. Exact time will be delivered by email.

9:30 we´ll get into the Maipo mountain valley. Views of high peaks and Maipo river from our 4x4 truck.

10:30 4x4 land road starts. We´ll get into the Morado Valley.

11:00 hiking begins between huge rock walls of Arenas Mount. We will follow the trail, along the river, and crossing several moraines.

14:00 great lookout of Morado Lagoon and the glacier. Enjoy your snack watching icebergs and walls of ice.

14:30 descent starts. Enjoy different views of the narrow valley , the moraines and the summits. Great sight of San Jose Volcano and glaciers over it!

17:00 on the 4x4 land road.

19:30 arrival to your hotel or meeting point in Santiago.

Choice - Add an extra day: you can add a second day trip! From this amazing valley add an extra day sleeping in the heart of the Andes in a comfortable lodge. At the next day visit another gorgeous valley and more glaciers!

Warning: This activity could include hiking in irregular terrain, driving by unmaintained land roads, sudden changes of weather, walk under strong sun.
